23. Literary Terms…Speak (Post #5)

Identify and discuss any other literary term and use quotes from the book to provide support. Examples:  flashback, irony, metaphor, simile, mood/tone, imagery, sound techniques (repetition, alliteration, onomatopoeia, etc…)

In my book Speak multiple times they “flashback” to the event of that night she called the cops on the biggest party of the summer. Slowly you get little by little an idea of why she is so different then before and once you see it all unfold you will understand; it’s pretty sad but moving! The mood of the character Melanie makes you believe she is feeling either terrible or is terrified of something. Her mood is sad and scared; then as the story unfolds she becomes more like a teenager and outgoing mainly when people finally believe she really went through something terrible. And when the other students find out they feel bad for her and are shocked. Try to help her and not want but need to make it up to Melanie.

1. prediction…Speak (Post #3)

Use what you know from the story to guess what will happen next or how the story will end.

I think that by the end of this more moody story justice will be shown to overcome evil. And Melanie will overcome the struggles that is keeping her down most of the school year! light is going to shine down on her gloomy and sad mood; take away the bad weather. There is more to the story of that night and we will soon know what exactly it is… i believe the end of the book will become more happy then what the most of the story has been. Melanie was put into a position no one should ever be in; but she is strong and will overcome this event in her life, anyways it’s just high school!

3. Conflicts… Speak (Post #2)

Name several of the conflicts that have occurred in the story so far (be sure to identify them as external or internal, and person vs._____).

In my highly emotional book Speak Melanie has faced many life-shattering issues that she can’t and wont talk about. The conflicts in her life are how she most deal with people bulling her for the events of that one she can’t forget and no one understands why she is so socially awkward. Which is simply because she is scared! Always wondering why no one understand why she had to call the cops on that party… if she didn’t call the cops that night would have been far worse for Melanie. And yet so many people hate her for it and barely know the truth. But soon they all will know the truth of that terrible night.

2. Connect … Speak post #1

Connect what you are reading  to something in your own life, to another book you have read (or movie), or to something happening in the “real” world.

In my book Speak, the main character Melanie is in high school and because of a mistake she made over the summer she is treated terrible. But no one knows what really knows why she called the cops on a party that went on around the end of the summer. Which caused a lot of people problems, but little do people know she had a lot more troubling issues happening to her that night! In the book she is made fun of and bullied for that phone call… Just like real life people are bullied everyday for a mistake that took place or if they said something at the wrong time and said it to the wrong person. Melanie is so depressed and scared in this book i believe she was involved in something dramatic or physically hurt in anyway. In conclusion Melanie is just another girl with a secret that she won’t share and won’t ever tell anyone about because she’s too scared to talk about.
